Bathroom Basins Buying Guide
A basin must work with the tap, waste and supporting surface. Start with usable bowl space and the room layout, then choose the installation style.

Measure width, depth and bowl space
Check overall projection as well as width, especially near a doorway or toilet. A compact outer size can hide a very small bowl, so compare internal dimensions where available.
Consider space for hands, the tap handle and everyday items. Mark the basin outline before deciding whether the shape works in the room.
Choose mounting and support
Wall-hung basins require a suitable wall and the specified brackets or fixings. Pedestals and semi-pedestals have model-specific support arrangements; do not assume they replace wall fixings.
Countertop, inset and undermount basins need an appropriate supporting surface and cut-out. Check the exact template and installation method before the worktop is made.
Match the tap to the bowl
Confirm the tap-hole arrangement. A basin without tap holes may use a worktop-mounted or wall-mounted tap, depending on its installation.
Compare spout reach and outlet height with the bowl. Leave comfortable hand space and check whether the proposed tap and basin have a manufacturer-tested pairing.
Choose the right waste and trap
Check whether the basin has an overflow and which waste design the manufacturer specifies. Do not choose a waste solely by its visible finish.
Check the trap and pipework space, especially inside a vanity or below an exposed basin. Confirm connection details and maintenance access with your installer.
Check what comes with it
Confirm whether brackets, waste, tap and any pedestal are included. Follow the basin’s cleaning guidance and keep its technical drawing with your order.
Browse basins, then compare basin taps and vanity units as a coordinated installation.
