Question 1

What's the difference between close-coupled and wall-hung toilets?

Accepted Answer

Close-coupled toilets have the cistern sitting directly on top of the toilet pan — they're the most common type, easy to install, and don't require a frame. Wall-hung toilets are mounted on the wall with a concealed cistern behind, making the floor easier to clean and creating a modern, floating look.

Question 2

What does rimless mean?

Accepted Answer

Rimless toilets don't have the traditional inner rim where bacteria and limescale can build up. Instead, water flows around an open, smooth bowl for a more hygienic and easier-to-clean flush. Rimless designs are becoming the standard in modern bathrooms and we highly recommend them.

Question 3

What size toilet pan do I need?

Accepted Answer

Standard toilet pans project about 500-520mm from the wall. Short-projection pans (430-480mm) are ideal for small bathrooms, en-suites, and cloakrooms where space is tight. Always check the projection measurement on the product page to ensure it fits your space with comfortable legroom.

Question 4

Do I need a concealed cistern frame for a wall-hung toilet?

Accepted Answer

Yes — wall-hung toilets require a concealed cistern frame (sometimes called a WC frame) that's built into or mounted against the wall. The frame supports the weight of the toilet and the user. This adds to the installation cost but creates a beautiful, clean-lined look. Browse our frames and flush plates for compatible options.

Question 5

What is a dual flush system?

Accepted Answer

Dual flush toilets have two flush buttons — a smaller flush (typically 3-4 litres) for liquid waste and a larger flush (6 litres) for solid waste. This saves significant water compared to older single-flush systems. Check the flush volumes and cistern supplied with your chosen model.

Question 6

Are soft-close toilet seats worth it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Soft-close seats lower gently and silently instead of slamming down — reducing noise, preventing damage, and being much safer for children. Most of our toilets come with soft-close seats included, and we also sell replacement soft-close seats for existing toilets.
