Question 1

What's the difference between thermostatic and manual shower valves?

Accepted Answer

Thermostatic valves maintain a constant water temperature even when other taps are used in the house, making them safer — especially important for families with children. Manual valves are simpler and cheaper but the temperature can fluctuate. We recommend thermostatic valves for all shower installations.

Question 2

How do I know what size shower tray I need?

Accepted Answer

Measure the available floor space in your bathroom, allowing for walls and any fixtures. Common sizes range from 700x700mm for compact en-suites to 1200x900mm for spacious walk-in showers. Quadrant trays (curved front) are great for corner installations. Check our shower trays collection for all available sizes.

Question 3

Can I use an electric shower with low water pressure?

Accepted Answer

An electric shower must have the water pressure and flow specified by its manufacturer. Heating water independently of a boiler does not remove those requirements. Have your installer check your supply before choosing a model.

Question 4

What's the difference between concealed and exposed shower valves?

Accepted Answer

Concealed valves are built into the wall with only the control plate visible, creating a clean, minimal look. Exposed valves mount on the wall surface with visible pipework — they're easier to install and maintain. Concealed valves require a deeper wall cavity or stud wall for installation.

Question 5

What shower enclosure do I need?

Accepted Answer

This depends on your bathroom layout. Quadrant enclosures fit neatly into corners. Sliding door enclosures work well in tight spaces as the door doesn't swing outward. Hinged doors offer the widest entry. Walk-in panels are the most luxurious option, creating an open, spa-like feel. Browse our shower enclosures to see all options.

Question 6

How thick should shower enclosure glass be?

Accepted Answer

Standard shower enclosures use 6mm tempered safety glass, which is perfectly adequate for framed enclosures. Frameless and walk-in panels typically use 8mm or 10mm glass for rigidity and a premium feel. Check the glass specification and installation requirements for the model you choose.

Question 7

Do I need a shower tray or can I have a wet room?

Accepted Answer

Both are options. Shower trays are easier and cheaper to install — they sit on the floor and have a built-in gradient for drainage. Wet rooms require the entire floor to be tanked (waterproofed) and a linear drain installed at floor level. Wet rooms look stunning but cost more to install correctly.
