Question 1

What BTU output do I need for my bathroom?

Accepted Answer

The BTU (British Thermal Unit) output needed depends on your room size. As a rough guide: a small en-suite (2-3m²) needs around 800-1200 BTU, a standard bathroom (4-6m²) needs 1500-2500 BTU, and a large bathroom (7m²+) needs 3000+ BTU. Use our product specifications to check the BTU output of each radiator.

Question 2

Can heated towel rails heat a bathroom?

Accepted Answer

A heated towel rail can contribute to heating a bathroom, but most are designed primarily for warming towels. Larger towel radiators with higher BTU outputs can effectively heat a small to medium bathroom. If you need the towel rail to be your main heat source, check that its BTU output matches your room's requirements.

Question 3

What's the difference between dual fuel and electric towel rails?

Accepted Answer

Dual fuel towel rails connect to your central heating system and also have an electric element, so they work when the heating is off (great for summer). Electric-only towel rails run independently of your heating system — ideal for bathrooms without central heating access. Standard towel rails connect only to your central heating.

Question 4

What size heated towel rail do I need?

Accepted Answer

Consider both the wall space available and how many towels you need to warm. A 1200x500mm rail suits most bathrooms and holds 2-3 towels. For en-suites or cloakrooms, a 800x400mm rail is sufficient. For family bathrooms, consider a wider 600mm model. Always check the height and width measurements before ordering.

Question 5

Do radiator valves matter?

Accepted Answer

Yes — radiator valves control the flow and temperature of water to your radiator. Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) let you set a target temperature for individual rooms, saving energy. Manual valves are simpler but offer less control. The valve finish should match your radiator — we stock valves in chrome, brushed brass, matt black, and more.

Question 6

Can I install a heated towel rail myself?

Accepted Answer

Electric-only towel rails need a qualified electrician for the final connection. Central heating and dual fuel towel rails need a plumber to connect to your pipework. The wall mounting itself is straightforward with the included brackets, but we always recommend professional installation for safety and warranty compliance.
