Question 1

What size bath should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Standard baths are 1700x700mm, which fits most UK bathrooms. If space is tight, consider a shorter 1500mm or 1600mm bath. For luxury, 1800mm baths offer extra length. Freestanding baths need clearance on all sides — allow at least 50mm around the edges. Always measure your space carefully before ordering.

Question 2

What's the difference between single-ended and double-ended baths?

Accepted Answer

Single-ended baths have the waste and taps at one end, so you lie facing the taps. Double-ended baths have a central waste with the overflow at the side, allowing two people to bathe comfortably or you to choose which end to recline against. Double-ended baths pair beautifully with freestanding or wall-mounted taps.

Question 3

Are freestanding baths practical?

Accepted Answer

Yes, though they do need more space than built-in baths. You'll need access to plumbing from below or behind, and they look best with at least 100mm clearance around all sides. They make a stunning centrepiece in larger bathrooms. Freestanding taps or wall-mounted fillers complete the look beautifully.

Question 4

What material are baths made from?

Accepted Answer

Most baths are made from acrylic — it's lightweight, warm to the touch, and retains heat well. Premium options include stone resin (heavier, more rigid, excellent heat retention) and cast iron (traditional, extremely durable, but very heavy). Check the construction and support requirements of your chosen bath.

Question 5

Do I need a bath panel?

Accepted Answer

If you're installing a standard built-in bath, you'll need panels to cover the sides. Most baths don't include panels, so you'll need to order them separately. Bath panels come in various finishes to match your bathroom. Freestanding baths don't need panels as they're designed to be seen from all sides.

Question 6

Can I use a shower over my bath?

Accepted Answer

Yes — shower baths are specifically designed for this, with a wider shower area at one end and a bath screen to contain the spray. You can also use a standard bath with a bath/shower mixer tap and a bath screen. Check our shower baths collection for baths designed with both bathing and showering in mind.
